The Georgetown Journalism Program Capstone Prize is awarded to the seniors who produced the most impressive reporting package for the minor’s capstone class.
Edward B. Bunn Awards for Journalistic Excellence
This award was founded by H. M. Greenspun, editor-publisher of the Las Vegas Sun. Named in honor of the Reverend Edward B. Bunn, S. J., Georgetown President from 1952–64 and Chancellor from 1964–72, the awards are given annually to outstanding contributions to student publications.
Steve Pisinski Scholarship
The Steve Pisinski scholarship, which the Journalism Program helps administer for the Georgetown Voice campus publication, is meant to relieve the financial burden of unpaid or underpaid journalism internships.
Italy Course
JOUR 3555 – International Journalism: Reporting from Florence
In this intensive summer course, students gain an understanding of how to navigate a new environment, both as students and journalists, by assuming the role of a foreign correspondent and by spending time getting to know the city of Florence, as they find and deliver a broad range of multimedia platform-ready stories. By engaging with tourists, locals, experts and other sources, students learn how to write culture, issue and opinion pieces, in addition to curating a social media presence, creating photo galleries and producing group videos. Students learn to act as ethical, respectful, accurate digital journalists, while also enjoying excursions to museums, nearby cities and other sights as part of the study abroad program.
